How To Make Natural Toothpaste

I don't like the unbearably salty baking soda and salt recipes that are all over the web. I don't like the taste and I suspect that they may actually be too abrasive - so Voilà! -- a tasty homemade toothpaste recipe.
The Dry:
    1/4 cup calcium carbonate {chalk}
    1/8 cup kaolin white cosmetic clay
    2 Tablespoons  Xylitol - cavitity reducing, naturally sweet & a humectant
    1 teaspoons baking soda

    1/2 cup glycerine

Flavoring for adults:
    8 drops fennel
    3 drops lemon
    3 drops myrrh
    3 drops clove
OR
    2 drops peppermint
    1 drop clove

For flavoring Kiddos toothpaste skip the essential oils and add organic flavor extracts {banana, strawberry, or whatever floats their boat} Find it at: naturesflavors.com

Store in an air tight jar - do not dip toothbrush in the jar - that will shorten the shelf life and introduce bacteria. Just use a clean butter knife or something similar to dig the toothpaste out of the pot and smear on your brush. If you're feeling a bit daring you could buy some empty aluminum artists paint tubes, sterilize them  somewhat by rinsing the inside with alcohol, let it dry completely and the then fill the tube with your natural toothpaste.

Remember, a little dab of toothpaste should do you -it's the mechanical action from from your toothbrush does most of the work of cleaning your teeth.
